Jumping Journal: December 24, 2005

The questionable weather forecast for last night hit and from what I heard maybe a little harder than what I thought.  Fortunately it all did come as freezing precipe, freezing rain/sleet.  When I left home I was questioning what the conditions were going to be like.  I was figuring that it was going to be quite slow and soft.  The temps were in the low 40's and the only shining light was the fact that the sunshine wasn't making it through the clouds.

I got to the hill to find that the conditions actually were quite a bit better than what I thought they would be.  It was slow as could be expected given the warm temps but it wasn't soft like I figured it would be.

All four of us, three adults and one junior, took an outrun to try to help pack things down a little before we headed on up the jump.

The first jump was actually pretty decent, I didn't crash it.  I guess you could say that's a definite plus.  The second jump was probably the best jump of the day.  I actually ended up getting a little more distance than what I figured I would see all day.

I ended up jumping late on jumps three through five.  I finally got the timing back down once again on the last/sixth jump of the day.  It didn't seem like it was quite as long of a jump as the second jump, it wasn't far from it though.

Amazingly I didn't crash any of the jumps today.  At least my tailbone was spared more bruising today, LOL!

Amazingly enough this week is the first week since between Christmas and New Years last winter that the 25 meter jump at Storrs Hill hasn't been jumped.  It needs plenty of work done to it thanks to making a 'little' bit too much snow on the landing hill.

This is my best pre-Christmas start so far, 71 total jumps on snow and 41 of them being on the 50.  That's way far better than last year by a factor of at least 2:1.  Until last year I always waited until the weekend after Christmas to get December jumping under my skis.  Last year I started jumping on snow early, December 18th.  Too say I'm already getting a little nervous about March would be an understatement.

Merry Christmas to everyone,
Crash
