Jumping Journal: July 23, 2006

Seemed more like mid to late September rather than mid July.  After two weeks of jumping in 90 degree temps, jumping in upper 60 degree weather this time of year truly didn't seem quite right.  I guess that streak of hot weekends has finally snapped.

Today kinda seemed like last summer in the respect of being able to build on the past week this week.  I couldn't imagine how bad my jumping would be if I were forced into taking a full month or more off from jumping.  So far I haven't had that to deal with since I started jumping.

The day began right where last week left off.  The big difference today was I did remember to stay back on the tails until I was stopped.  It kinda seemed strange not doing a face plant on the first jump.  I was beginning to get a little use to it after the past two weeks.

The second jump made me think I was trying to conduct the Boston Pops or some big symphony orchestra.  The jumped seemed fine, the best in quite a while.  My left hand had a mind of its own and wanted to bounce around in the air.  The arm didn't move, just the hand.  The thought I had going through my mind while riding the outrun was that I needed a conductors wand.  It really felt like my hand was moving around in that kind of motion.

The third, fourth and fifth jumps each showed some nice improvements.  The problem I kept having on all of them was that I was jumping late each time.  The one big difference from last year to this year is that this year I can't seem to time the takeoff to save my soul.  Last year I hardly ever jumped late.  I still haven't figured out what had changed over the past year.

The sixth and final jump for the day ended up being my best jump in a long time...other than the crash shortly after the landing.  I think my timing was better on the last jump but for some reason I ended up going down just before the transition.  Gee, my first crash in several days of jumping.  Maybe the new boots are helping to keep me from crashing so much, HA!
