Jumping Journal: January 04, 2006

Finally, a not so great night of jumping.  WOW!  It has taken how long for one to appear this year, LOL!!!  I made it to the hill and help Cannonball move somethings out of the jump inn so there would be more room and just rested up waiting for the jumping to start.  A couple of the other master jumper decided to toss on the x-country skis and do a little x-country action getting ready for the first meet of the season this weekend, if it doesn't get cancelled that is.

Went up for the first jump and ended up jumping a little on the late side.  It still made it down into the 35-38 meter range.  The second jump was about the same, a little better on the timing but still what I would call late.  Either the third or fourth jump I hit the timing real nice and made it down into the 38-40 meter range once again.  It would be pretty much the only jump of the evening that would make it down that far.

A jump or two later Cannonball had talked me into going for the V.  The very next jump I ended up putting in a bit of sketchy V.  I actually thought I was going to get all twisted up in the air as I watching the skis moving every which way imaginable.  I was thinking that I was going to end up crashing but I didn't.  The next few as well I had a better controlled V than the first attempt.  All of the jumps didn't have the power at the takeoff like I ended the afternoon with yesterday.  They was all going down into the 35-38 meter area.

On jump seven I was quite late and I did have some nice power with the jump, but naturally by being late it ended up going nowhere.  Jumps eight and nine were better timing but still not quite the power I had yesterday.

Definitely not a jump session to write home about, but considering how crappy I was jumping all of last winter I guess I can't complain too much.

After the session we covered the hill, once again, in plastic to try to keep the freezing rain/rain from doing too much damage to the inrun over the next couple of days.  Saturday it is suppose to warm up toward 50 degrees before cooling back down to around 40 on Sunday, at least that was the forecast as of last night, I haven't taken a look yet today.  Sunday is suppose to be the first Eastern Division meet of the season.  I guess the organizer is questioning if the 30 and 38 meter jumps will be jumpable or if they will be too soft.  I haven't had any plans on competing in the meet but as always I shall go over to watch everyone compete.  The talk has also been that if the 30 and 38 aren't jumped that we will probably end up jumping the 50 on Sunday afternoon.  Time shall tell.
