Jumping Journal: May 18, 2009

Pete and Repeat were sitting on a fence and...

Yeah, I know.  Don't remind me.

Another evening of jumping on plastic.  Could it get any more predictable than this.  Surely not.  But it did.

After a rather cool cloudy day I headed up to Lebanon late this afternoon to grab some more on the K25 this summer.  Gotta get at 80-85 to keep up with the past summers.  I arrived a bit late after making a stop to pick up a couple of things I needed for a project I'm working on around the house.  Cannonball already had the boys stretching so I joined in.  After stretching and doing some immos we all suited up.  Three kids and by the end of the practice session there was also three adults, Bill, Mike and me.  Mike was making his first jumps since he took a nasty crash before Mud Meet.  It was real good to see him back out again.

I headed up the hill with the rest of the jumpers.  While most rode the landing hill I skipped that as usual.  I headed on up after soaping my skis.  After getting the inrun watered down I was given the signal and headed down the inrun.  I jumped at the takeoff and had a nice 15-16 meter jump.  I landed and it seemed like I was possibly off balance right after landing.  I ended up going down before I reached the sawdust.  It wasn't that I got down too quickly like I have been doing in the past but I went down on the first jump for the third jump session in a row.

I walked back up and as I passed Cannonball he didn't say anything.  I wasn't surprised.  I soaped back up and got the signal.  I headed down the inrun and jumped.  The jump didn't seem quite as nice as the one before it but unlike the first one I didn't manage to stay on balance and kept myself on my skis until I slowed to a stop.  As I was taking off my skis I started laughing, thinking.  Pete and Repeat were sitting on the fence and Pete fell off...who is left?  It sure seems exactly like two weeks ago when I jumped the last time.

Jumps three and four were about the same.  After flagging a few kids for Cannonball since he had to leave early I walked up for my fifth and last jump of the session.  One of the parents gave me the signal and I started down the inrun.  I jumped at the takeoff and noticed a camera flashbulb go off.  I jumped more direct than I had all spring thus far.  I haven't jumped that direct on the K25 in quite a long time it seems like.  I landed around 17 meters.  As I was coming a stop I was thinking the mother ended up shooting a picture of me taking my best jump so far this summer.

Hopefully, this may end the streak and Repeat will fall off the fence now, HA!  I wouldn't mind that happening.  It's time for jumping to return to normal once again.  I guess I'll have to wait two weeks as their is no jumping next Monday due to the holiday.

Keep the ski tips up,
