Jumping Journal: January 27, 2006

Day 29.  It sure is looking like this is going to be one heck of a weekend for jumping.  It started off that way tonight at least.  After an early arrival at the hill Dr. John and I started jumping the 25 under nice conditions.  The weather was about the best you could ever ask for this time of the year.

I took a total of seven jumps with him on the 25.  The first one or two wasn't the greatest and I did crash right on the landing of the third jump which was very unusual.  Normally I always crash at the transition and not on the landing.  The rest of the jumps on the 25 went smoothly and each one kept improving from the previous jump.

Then things moved over to the 50 where the girls from Lake Placid were waiting.  It turns out that they have had very little jumping time over the past couple of weeks in Lake Placid due to traveling to meets out west, Mother Nature, and freestyle skiing competition that has left the jumping program pretty much in the dust.  They decided to come on over and spend the weekend jumping the 50, preparing for Junior Olympics that will take place on the 50 later in the winter.

I ended up taking eight more jumps with them on the 50.  Most of those jumps were quite solid.  I did end up jumping early on one of the jumps.  I actually thought I was late until I took the next jump and I was late on that jump.  It was then that I realized I had jumped early on the jump before it.

I had some video taken and just finished watching it.  I still wish I could figure out how to move out over the ski with a straight body versus bending at the waist.  I'm going to have to try a little experiment tomorrow and see what happens.  It sounds like tomorrow I may easily end up with 20+ jumps in at two different jump sites on three different hills.

And I thought this was going to be an nice casual weekend of jumping.

Oh yeah, one other strange thing from tonight.  I'm use to jumping around kids that has been the fact of life since I started jumping.  It was much worse in the first couple of years until we started to see some adults start jumping.  Now it does seem like I can find myself jumping with more adults then kids, it's getting to be the norm anymore.  Tonight was definitely a little strange.  Not only was I the only adult jumping on the 50 but I was also the only male jumping on the 50.  Jumping around three girls is rather unusual to say the least.
