Jumping Journal: January 30, 2007

The last day.  Yep, today was the last of jumping all but me of the Lunatic Fringe before they head out tomorrow evening for Iola, Wisconsin for the 2007 US Master National Championships.  They have been talking it up more than the kids talk about going to any jump meet anywhere in the country/world.  If you didn't know better they were the kids that just couldn't stop talking.

Cannonball and Matt, possibly even Dan ended up taking a daylight jump session earlier in the afternoon today while the rest of us including Matt went for the evening session.  The weather was quite nice, partly cloudy and temperature were in the lower teens.  I actually didn't put on the warm up pants like I have the several days.  I figured that they would be overkill and I'm glad I left them off.

The first jump of the evening started right where last night left off.  I was jumping straight for the skis and the timing was pretty decent.  I didn't have much of a V.  I was still having the trouble of keeping the head down.  This has been a problem ever since I started.  Right now it is getting me cause I don't pick the head up at/after landing.  I end up as a result pitching the whole body forwards and throwing everything helter/kelter.

The second jump was about the same as the first except it was a little further.  I did have the down and it caused me to fall backwards and ride through the outrun on my hands.

The third, fourth and fifth jumps were still pretty decent timing wise but from my perspective I wasn't jumping to the skis as much as I did on the first jump.  I still wasn't having any kind of power on the takeoff though.

On the sixth jump I decided to try to use more power.  Quite naturally I ended up using more power but instead of it being through the legs it was by jumping with the upper body.  By this time I was also starting to get sloppy on the timing.

Jumps seven through nine were still somewhat on the late side, not really late but maybe a foot or so late.  I was getting down into the 35-38 meter range on several of the later jumps.  Heck I was maybe even close to 40 meter range on one of the jumps.  It wasn't a bad night but not as good as what I would have like to have seen.  Then again, what night is ever as good as what you would like it to be.  You always are wanting more.
