Jumping Journal: January 20, 2006

Day 24.  It almost didn't happen.  Talk about being brain fried.  I've felt that way quite a bit of the day today.  My nice laid out plans for today were totally trashed thanks to car repair work that didn't go quite as planned.  After getting the thermostat replaced on my car I ended up having it done a second time because the replacement thermostat was no good.  A 1.5 hour long job, before all was said and done, took 8.5 hours.  I didn't quite make it to Storrs Hill by 4:30PM like I had planned on doing.  Instead I arrived at 6:30, right at the start of the team competition on the 50.  By the time I arrived I was so out of it mentally that I knew that there was no way that I was going to in the competition.  I hadn't planned on it and by force I ended up sticking with my plans.

Instead upon arriving at the hill I saw that Dr. John was jumping on the 25 and I decided, very quickly, to go ahead and try and grab the usual seven jumps on the 25.  Conditions were somewhat on the slow side, especially the first couple of jumps.  After that it did seem like things picked up a little, not much though.  Each jump did get progressively better and I think the time between each jump kept on getting shorter.  I think that is the fast seven jumps I have ever taken.  It only took about 25 minutes to get seven jumps in.

No crashes today and yep, I was wearing the bibs once again.  Actually was doing hockey stops on about every jump.  I just wish I could get myself to do them on the 50.  I'm beginning to think my mind is playing a very big trick on me when it comes to doing them on the 50.  I'm going to have to give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.  At least I hope the rain holds off until the jumping is over.

The last thing we need right now is more rain.  I looked at the Newport jump this morning while waiting on my car and the tressel is bare up top.  I know Hanover is out of commission right now as well.  I'm not sure about Andover as of yet.  The only jump that might be currently jumpable in New England is Lebanon.  I don't consider Lake Placid to be in New England.

Hopefully tomorrow, if weather were to actually cooperate I might finally make it over the big 100 on the 50.  Also, since tomorrow is normally the big jump day hopefully I'll be able to pull the average back up to seven jumps per day.  I only need 13 jumps tomorrow to do that.  I currently have 5 jumps on the 32 in Hanover, 66 jumps on the 25 and another 91 jumps on the 50 in Lebanon so far this winter.

Pray for snow.
