Jumping Journal: February 08, 2006
Day 33. Alas. It has taken forever for it to get her. Sunday it ended up raining off an on all day long, so we didn't jump. Monday night was spent pulling out the hoses and moving the compressor around so we start making snow on Tuesday evening. Very strange making snow in February. It hasn't happened around here since I moved up here in late 2000. From what I hear "Christmas Is Coming Twice This Year". Yep, it sounds like I'll be making snow in Newport Friday night, just in time for the Newport Winter Carnival on Sunday afternoon. Boy has this been on strange winter.
It's hard to think that the high school jump season is winding down. Tonight was the pre-state meet. Crazy thing has been that during all the regular meets that only had about half the jumpers at each meet that will be present for pre--state and state meet, the temperatures were nice and warm. Well, last week when most of the teams came together in Andover and again tonight the temperatures have dropped big time. Instead of temperatures in the 30s the temperature tonight was more like the upper teens.
I ended up with a normal Wednesday evening of jumping before the high school meet, three jumps. All three jumps were solid. I always seem to forget about how much height you get on the Andover 38. It does seem to get you higher in the air right after the knoll than most of the hills I jump at. This plus the lack of wind that the hill is notorious for makes for very different jumping conditions.
I didn't have any real outstanding jumps. I just spent the evening getting back on the skis and remembering how deceiving the jump can be. It always seems like I have went really far when in reality I haven't went anywhere at all.
Hopefully, now I'll be back to a somewhat jumping trend again. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to get a nice stretch of days in a row. Mother Nature sounds like she wants to cooperate, FINALLY!
