Jumping Journal: September 20, 2007

To soap or not to soap, that is the question.  It's getting darker earlier, winter must be coming.

I arrived at Storrs Hill about 6PM, err late this afternoon to find Bill doing a little bit of raking of the sawdust on the outrun.  Shortly thereafter Cannonball arrived.  I suited up and headed up the jumping for the first jump of the evening.  Yes, it is getting darker sooner.

At the base of the tressel I noticed that there was a bar of soap laying on the ground.  It didn't seem a little strange.  I walked on up top and found no soap up top.  I ended up having to take the first jump without soap.  Boy was I ever surprised.  I had what was probably one of the shortest jumps of this summer.  It was probably 13.5-14 meters.  The jump went smooth but the lack of distance was more than expeced

As I walked back up top for the second jump I grabbed the bar of soap and took it with me.  This time the results would be the exact opposite of the first jump.  I ended up having the best jump of the evening on the second jump.  It had to ne at least 18-1.85 meters.  I was quite shocked by the jump as I wasn't expecting that much of a distane gain by just putting on soap.

The third, fourth, and fifth were just like number two.  I guess I did get a lot better jump by using the soap.  Amazing how something so simple can produce so much of a difference.
