Jumping Journal: May 24, 2007

Hot, hot, hot.

Yet once again the weather has provided many crazy changes over the past week.  Last weekend was wet and highs were only in the upper 40s, normally highs would be around 70.  Today the high was in the upper 80s and tomorrow may hit 90, all before temps drop back to to more normal low to mid 70s for Saturday.  Yep, the greenhouse effect in action.

I hadn't planned on jumping today.  I did have other plans made for each afternoon this week but those plans ended up getting cancelled on Monday when I found out that I had no other choice but to cancel them.  As a result today was left open to get in some more summer jumping.

I arrived at the hill this afternoon under very sunny skies.  Cannonball was finishing up a little bit of early summer work on the jump.  A short while later Dan and Bill arrived and we got ready and headed out for a warmup, err hotup, run.  We got back to the hill and changed clothes and headed up the jump to start jumping.  The thermometer was supposedly saying it was only 76 degrees when we started jumping.  I think the temps were closer to 80-85 degrees.  The thermometer was in the shade.

All in all I took five jumps and each one was about the same as the one before it.  Most of the jumps ended up around 17-18 meters.

It does seem like I have really gotten used to keeping my shoulders up on the inrun.  I did notice on a couple of jumps that it seemed like I was more comfortable on the landing than what I ever remember in the past.  It does seem strange feeling that comfortable jumping the 25.  I also have noticed that I'm jumping better on the 25 than I have ever jumped before.  I haven't been putting soap on the skis and I'm still jumping as far right now as I was jumping with soap on the skis last summer.
